Safe Sex

YOU NEED CONDOMS TO PROTECT YOU FROM STIs

Safer sex means not getting an STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection). It means that blood or sexual fluids are prevented from passing between partners. Safer sex demonstrates love, care and respect for yourself and your partner. Condoms can protect you from most STIs, but a few STIs are transmitted by skin-to-skin contact; something a condom might not protect against. The more sexual partners you have the greater your chance of getting an STI.

Here are some excuses for not using condoms:

  • Feeling awkward about buying or carrying them around.
  • Too expensive.
  • Being too drunk or stoned.
  • Seeing condoms as a mood killer.
  • Trusting your partner is safe.
  • Being afraid to use a condom because your partner might become angry or abusive.

If any of these reasons sound like you, talk to your doctor or one of the clinic staff at CAFE - For Youth Health.

Tests are free and confidential at CAFE - For Youth Health or you can see you doctor. STI tests are simple and most STIs can be treated easily with medication. There are many types of infections and not all of them will have symptoms (you may not know that you have one). If you have ever had sex without a condom, then you need to have an STI check up.

If you are concerned about whether or not you might have an STI, why not give the staff at CAFE a call and have a chat! 378 3895 is our phone number.

Remember: Condoms available at Cafe for a gold coin donation.
